A small business guide to website maintenance
What is website maintenance for a small business?
It's the monthly work that keeps a site online, secure and accurate: hosting, updates, backups, security, fixes when something breaks and the content changes the business needs.

Most small business owners don't notice maintenance until it's missing: the contact form that stopped sending months ago, the security warning in the browser, the holiday hours nobody updated. The job is to catch those before a customer does.
What should be checked on a website every month?
Whether the contact form and booking still deliver, whether the phone buttons dial the right number, and whether the hours, prices and services are still true.

Then the technical side: the site loads over HTTPS without warnings, it's backed up, the software behind it is current, and no pages or links return errors. Google Search Console, free from Google, emails the site owner about some problems it finds, like pages it can't reach or security issues (Google Search Central), so connect it and read what it sends.
Why does website security matter for a small business?
Because a hacked or insecure site turns customers away before they read a word.

Browsers mark pages without HTTPS as not secure, and Google can warn searchers away from a site it finds compromised.
Google uses HTTPS as a ranking signal and recommends it for every site (Google Search Central). Small sites get attacked too, mostly by automated tools looking for old software and weak passwords, not by anyone who picked them. Keeping software current, limiting who can log in and keeping backups you can restore cover most of the risk.
How often should a small business website be updated?
Whenever something about the business changes, and at least a look every month. The site should say what your Google Business Profile says: same hours, same phone, same services.

Good moments for an update: a new service or a service you dropped, a price change, new photos of real work, holiday hours, a new town you cover and new reviews worth showing. Google says it looks for content made for people that's accurate and useful (Google Search Central, helpful content), and an outdated page is neither.
Should you maintain your own website or pay for website maintenance services?
If you enjoy it and do it every month, do it yourself. Most owners don't, and a site that's looked after only when something breaks costs leads in the meantime.

Ask any provider what they check each month, who makes your changes and how fast, where the backups are, and whether your domain is in your name. With us, care is part of every site we build: you send a change by text or email and we make it, in English and Spanish if your site has both.
What if your current website is too old to maintain?
Then fixing it month after month costs more than replacing it. Signs: nobody has the login, the builder or theme is no longer supported, or every small change breaks something else.

A rebuild done carefully keeps your web address and what Google already knows about you: the old page addresses point to the new ones. After that, the monthly care starts, so it doesn't end up in the same place again.
Questions people ask
Don't see yours? Ask Victoria during the assessment, or call (805) 970-2936.
What do your website maintenance services include?
Hosting, security and the changes you ask for, every month: new photos, services, prices, hours or pages. We keep the site up to date and backed up, and check every month that its forms and call buttons still work.
Can you maintain a website someone else built?
Our monthly care comes with the sites we build. If someone else built yours, we rebuild it on our setup, keep your address and the pages Google already shows, and then look after it every month.
How much do website maintenance services cost?
The care is part of the website's monthly price, so there's no separate maintenance bill. The free 2-minute assessment works out a firm price for the build and the monthly price, with a 12-month minimum.
How do I ask for a change?
Send it by text or email: the new price, the photo, the hours for the holidays. We make the change and tell you when it's live. You don't need a login or to learn a website builder.
Can I cancel the monthly care?
Yes, after the 12-month minimum, by email. By then the site is yours, the design and the words, and your domain has been in your name from day one. The photos you send us are always yours.
Does website maintenance help with Google?
It keeps what Google already likes working: a secure site, pages that load, no broken links and information that matches your Google Business Profile. Getting found for more searches is SEO, a separate service.
Can you keep the Spanish pages up to date too?
Yes. When you ask us to change a price or a service, we change it in English and Spanish, written by people, so the two never say different things.
Do you look after websites outside Santa Barbara?
Yes. Cloud Conquer AI is based in Santa Barbara. We meet in person in the Santa Barbara area, and work by phone or video with businesses anywhere else in the U.S.
