Legal answering service

The client who calls at 9 pm hires whoever answers

Legal answering service: new-client calls taken 24/7 in English or Spanish by Victoria, our AI receptionist, so they don't hire the next firm on the list.

Example callIn English and SpanishThursday, 8:50 pm. A driver calls the evening after a crash.
  1. Victoria:

Thanks for calling your firm, this is Victoria. How can I help? También hablo español.

  2. Caller:

Sí, en español por favor. Me chocaron por atrás esta tarde en la 101 y me duele el cuello. El otro chofer tiene seguro.

Yes, in Spanish please. I was rear-ended on the 101 this afternoon and my neck hurts. The other driver has insurance.

  3. Victoria:

Siento mucho lo del choque. Le voy a hacer unas preguntas para que el abogado tenga los detalles. ¿Cómo se llama, dónde fue exactamente, y ya lo vio un médico?

I'm sorry about the crash. I'll ask a few questions so the attorney has the details. What's your name, where exactly was it, and has a doctor seen you yet?

  4. Caller:

Me llamo Rosa Méndez. Fue en la salida de Milpas. Fui a urgencias y me dieron un papel. La aseguradora del otro ya me llamó.

My name is Rosa Méndez. It was at the Milpas exit. I went to urgent care and they gave me a paper. The other driver's insurer already called me.

  5. Victoria:

Gracias. No puedo darle consejo legal, pero sí puedo apartarle una consulta con el abogado. Tengo mañana viernes a las 9:30 o a las 2:00. Traiga el papel de urgencias y el reporte del choque si lo tiene.

Thank you. I can't give legal advice, but I can book a consultation with the attorney. I have tomorrow, Friday, at 9:30 or 2:00. Bring the urgent care paper and the accident report if you have it.

  6. Caller:

    Mañana a las 9:30, sí.

    Tomorrow at 9:30, yes.

  7. Victoria:

Listo: viernes a las 9:30, consulta para Rosa Méndez. Le mando la confirmación por mensaje a este número.

All set: Friday at 9:30, consultation for Rosa Méndez. I'll text the confirmation to this number.

Questions people ask

Don't see yours? Ask Victoria during the assessment, or call (805) 970-2936.

What does Victoria cost a law firm?

The firm's price is set by its calls (extra calls are billed per call), with Spanish and after-hours calls included, for just calls or for texts, email, chat and DMs too. The free 2-minute assessment works out your price from your calls. If you're not happy in the first 30 days, we refund your first monthly payment.

Will Victoria give callers legal advice?

No. She doesn't say whether someone has a case, what it's worth, what to do next or which deadlines apply. If a caller asks, she says an attorney will review their situation and offers a consultation. You approve her script, including the intake questions and what she says when someone asks for advice, before she takes a single call.

What about confidentiality and the ethics rules?

Information from a prospective client is protected even if they never hire you (ABA Model Rule 1.18, and California's Rule 1.18), and a lawyer who uses outside help, including AI tools, has to supervise it and protect client information (ABA Model Rule 5.3; ABA Formal Opinion 512, 2024). By default, Victoria keeps summaries to what your intake needs: names, contact details, the type of matter and the key dates. Bring your questions to the setup call; your own ethics counsel decides what your firm needs.

Can she run our conflict check?

She collects what your team needs to run it: the caller's name, the other parties' names and the matter type, all in the summary. The check itself stays with your firm, and if you want, she books the consultation as tentative until it clears.

More questions (3)

Will callers know they're talking to an AI?

Not unless they ask. If a caller asks whether they're talking to a person, Victoria tells them she's an AI assistant for the firm; she never claims otherwise. Anyone who wants a person can ask for a callback, and the request is in the summary.

Does she work with Clio or MyCase?

She books into a calendar that holds your consultation times, and every intake reaches you by text right away. Sending intakes straight into Clio, MyCase or another practice-management system is a custom build we'd quote separately.

Who sets this up?

Nathaniel Ross, the founder, sets it up himself. He's based in Santa Barbara, and you talk with him on the setup call. Bring your practice areas, intake questions for each, consultation times, what counts as urgent and the number urgent calls should ring. You can call in and hear Victoria before she answers a single client.

The details

In short

People call a lawyer the evening after something goes wrong: the accident, the arrest, the letter from immigration, the fight that ended a marriage.

They have your firm and two others open on their phone, and the first one that answers gets the consultation.

Victoria answers in English or Spanish, takes the intake your firm writes, books the consultation and gets the details to you before the morning.

What gets in the way

New clients call after hours and hire the next firm.Intake calls pull attorneys and staff off billable work.Spanish-speaking clients hang up on English voicemail.Current clients call for status and tie up the line.

New clients call after hours and hire the next firm

Accidents, arrests and bad news don't keep office hours.

A caller who reaches voicemail at 8 pm keeps scrolling, and by the time your office opens they've booked a consultation somewhere that picked up.

Intake calls pull attorneys and staff off billable work

Every new-client call needs the same questions: what happened, when, who the other party is, how they found you.

When staff are in court or with a client, those calls go to voicemail, and many callers don't leave one.

Spanish-speaking clients hang up on English voicemail

Roughly a third of residents in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties speak Spanish at home (33.9% and 30.1%, U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2024).

In immigration, injury and family law, a caller who hears only English often hangs up without a message, so the lost case never shows up anywhere.

Current clients call for status and tie up the line

"Has anything happened on my case?" calls are a big share of a small firm's phone time. They matter to the client, but each one interrupts the work that would actually move the case.

What we do about it

Intake taken the way your firm writes it.Consultations booked, urgent calls rung through.Spanish from the first word.No legal advice, ever.

Intake taken the way your firm writes it

You give us your intake questions for each practice area, and Victoria asks them: what happened, when, where, the names of the other parties so your team can run a conflict check, and how the caller found you.

The summary reaches you when the call ends.

Consultations booked, urgent calls rung through

Victoria books consultations into the times you set aside.

A call on your urgent list, such as someone in custody or a hearing tomorrow, rings the number you choose instead of waiting for the morning.

Spanish from the first word

She answers in English or Spanish and switches mid-call, so someone calling the night after a crash can explain the whole thing in Spanish, and your attorney still gets the summary in English.

No legal advice, ever

Victoria doesn't tell callers whether they have a case, what it's worth or what deadlines apply. She takes the details, books the consultation and says an attorney will review it.

Status calls from current clients become callback requests for the right person on your team.
