Questions people ask
Don't see yours? Ask Victoria during the assessment, or call (805) 970-2936.
How does the price compare with a per-minute answering service?
A per-minute service charges for every minute, so a long call about a slab leak costs more than a short one. Victoria is priced by calls, not minutes: a long call costs the same as a short one, and spam, wrong numbers and calls under 30 seconds are free. The free 2-minute assessment works out your price from your calls. If you're not happy in the first 30 days, we refund your first monthly payment.
We pay for leads on Angi and Thumbtack. Can Victoria get to them first?
Yes. A homeowner pricing a water heater replacement on Angi or Thumbtack hears from several plumbers, and the first one to answer usually gets the visit. Victoria texts or calls each lead within seconds of the alert, books the estimate and sends you the summary. For a Yelp request, she lets you know the moment it lands so you can answer it first in Yelp.
What if a caller smells gas near the water heater?
She reads the wording you wrote for gas calls, first and word for word, for example: “Leave the house now and call the gas company or 911 from outside.” She never tells anyone to relight a pilot or turn a gas valve.
Can she tell a caller how to shut off the water?
Only in words you give her. On every leak call she asks whether the water is off; if you also want her to say where the main shut-off usually is or how to close the valve under a toilet, she reads your wording, word for word.
More questions (4)Fewer questions
Will callers know they're talking to an AI?
If they ask, she tells them plainly: she's an AI assistant for your shop. Her part of the call is the booking: what's leaking, where, and when you can be there; what's behind the wall is yours to find.
How does she handle Spanish?
On setup you choose how she opens: in English, in Spanish, or both in one line. From there she follows the caller and switches mid-call when they do, and before she takes real calls you can call in yourself and hear her handle a Spanish call about a water heater or a backed-up drain.
We run ServiceTitan, Jobber or Housecall Pro. Does she book into ours?
Jobber and Housecall Pro can connect directly, so she can book straight into yours; we confirm the connection on the setup call. ServiceTitan needs ServiceTitan's approval, so we check what's possible there too. Nothing waits on that answer, though: every job she books is texted to you as a summary with the fixture and the address.
Who handles setup, and what should I have ready?
Nathaniel Ross, our founder, sets it up with you on one setup call, in person if you work in the Santa Barbara area and by phone anywhere else in the U.S. Have ready your service list (drains, water heaters, repipes, leak detection), the neighborhoods you cover, the price ranges you want her to give, your emergency rules and the number urgent calls should ring. We set up your call forwarding on that call, and she starts answering once setup is done. Missed-call texts wait for carrier registration, which takes from about a week to two or three weeks (Twilio), while answering calls doesn't wait for it.
The details
In short
A homeowner watching water spread across the kitchen floor wants a plumber on the way, and you're under someone else's sink.
Victoria takes the call in English or Spanish, asks whether the water is shut off, and either books the job or rings it through to you by your emergency rules.
What gets in the way
A small crack, a lot of water.Holidays and weekends bring the calls.A leak is hard to describe in a second language.Water heater calls repeat the same questions.
A small crack, a lot of water
A 1/8-inch crack in a pipe can release up to 250 gallons of water a day (State Farm), so the homeowner calling wants a time and a plumber on the way before the subfloor soaks it up.
Holidays and weekends bring the calls
A water heater that quits on a Sunday morning and a kitchen drain that backs up after Thanksgiving dinner both arrive when the office is closed.
Roto-Rooter says its calls for service on the day after Thanksgiving will jump 50 percent above the average Friday (Roto-Rooter).
A leak is hard to describe in a second language
In Santa Barbara County 33.9% of residents, and in Ventura County 30.1%, speak Spanish at home (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2024).
Describing a slab leak, a backed-up cleanout or a pilot light that won't stay lit is hard enough in a first language, and an English-only line loses the details that tell you which parts to bring.
Water heater calls repeat the same questions
How soon can you install, what will it cost, and are the earthquake straps included?
California requires every new and replacement water heater to be braced, anchored or strapped (California Health and Safety Code §19211), so the strap question comes up on these calls.
Answering all of it between jobs eats the afternoon.
What we do about it
Every booking arrives with the details.Your emergency list, applied overnight.A text when a call drops.Water heater answers, the way you'd give them.
Every booking arrives with the details
She asks what you'd ask: which fixture, whether the water is shut off and, on a water heater call, how old the tank is.
The answers come to you in the summary with the address, so the right parts are on the truck.
Your emergency list, applied overnight
You decide what can't wait: a leak that won't shut off, sewage coming up a drain, no water at all. Those calls ring through to the number you choose, your cell or another one you give us.
A leak with the valve closed or a running toilet goes into the next morning's earliest slot.
A text when a call drops
If a call drops while the homeowner is out at the curb looking for the main shut-off, they get a text right away from the local business number we register for you, with the message you approved on setup.
Water heater answers, the way you'd give them
Load your answers once (how soon you can install, the price range you're comfortable sharing, whether the permit and seismic straps are included), and Victoria gives them the same way on every water heater call, then books the install visit.
