An auto repair shop's guide to marketing
How do auto repair shops get more customers?
Be the shop drivers find on the map, the one whose reviews say you're honest, and the one that reminds them when the next service is due.

Many new customers start with a search like "auto repair near me" or "brake repair" and a town, then pick from the map with a few shops on it. Past customers come back when you remind them. Both matter: a complete Google profile and steady reviews bring the first visit, and reminders and good work bring the second. A lot of a shop's work repeats, such as oil changes, brakes, tires and inspections, so a customer you keep is worth more than any single ad click.
What does local SEO do for an auto repair shop?
It puts your shop in the map and the results for the searches drivers make in your town.

One example from our own work: JM Auto Repair went from #37 to #1 for "auto repair king city" (Google Search Console).
The basics are the same for any shop: a Google Business Profile with every service, your hours and real photos; a website with a page for each main service; your town named where it's true; and reviews that keep coming. It doesn't happen in a week: SEO usually takes months to show its benefit. One shop's result in one town is an example, not a promise for yours.
How do auto repair shops get more Google reviews?
Ask every customer when they pick up the car, then send a text with a direct link to your Google review form that same day.

Many drivers worry about being overcharged or sold work they don't need, so reviews that mention a fair price or a clear explanation carry weight. You can't ask for those words, but you can earn them: show the old part, send a photo of the problem, and call before any extra work. Reply to every review, and stay calm with the unhappy ones. Google doesn't allow paying for reviews or asking only happy customers (Google's policy on reviews).
What should an auto repair website have?
Your services, your hours, your location with a map, real photos of your shop, and an easy way to book or call.

Name the work you do, such as brakes, oil changes, diagnostics, A/C, transmissions and smog checks if you're licensed for them, and the makes you know best. Show certifications like ASE if your technicians hold them, and your warranty on parts and labor. Many customers need to wait or get a ride, so say whether you have a waiting area, loaner cars or a shuttle. If your customers speak Spanish, offer the site in Spanish too.
Keep the phone number and a booking button on every screen on a phone, and keep pages fast for the driver stuck on the shoulder. Add an about page with your technicians, your reviews and a contact page with directions. If your state registers repair shops, as California does through the Bureau of Automotive Repair, show your registration number. Link the site from your Google Business Profile, keep the name, address, phone and hours the same on both, and add the same real photos of your bays and team to the profile.
How do shops bring customers back for the next service?
With reminders timed to each car: a text or email when the next oil change or service is due, based on the car's maintenance schedule or the sticker you put on the windshield.

Texts also cut the phone tag during a job: "we found this, here's a photo, OK to fix?" and "your car is ready". Get written permission to text at drop-off, such as a checkbox on the work order, because marketing texts need the customer's prior express written consent under federal law (the Telephone Consumer Protection Act). Customers who haven't been in for a while can get a friendly note with a reason to come back, like a check before a road trip.

How do auto repair shops get more customers?
Strong reviews, a complete Google profile and reminders that bring past customers back for their next service. A lot of growth comes from people who already trust you.
Do you work with shops outside Santa Barbara?
Yes. Setup is in person in the Santa Barbara area, and by phone anywhere else in the U.S.
How much does auto repair marketing cost?
Each service is priced on its own. The free assessment works out your price in about 2 minutes.
Does SEO work for auto repair shops?
It can. JM Auto Repair, a client of ours, went from #37 to #1 for "auto repair king city" (Google Search Console). That's one shop in one town: results depend on your area and take months, not weeks.
Do I own my website and Google profile?
Yes. Your website, your Google Business Profile and any ad accounts are in your shop's name. If you ever stop working with us, they stay with you.
Can you answer the phone while we're under a car?
Yes. Victoria, our AI receptionist, answers in English and Spanish, books the appointment and sends you a summary of every call, so the phone doesn't pull a tech off a job.
